Our Message
Bullying is NOT a normal part of growing up.
Physical aggression, verbal aggression, exclusion – all can have devastating consequences for victims and bullies, and can set the stage for further violence.
We have the power and responsibility to stop bullying.
Research has shown that adult and peer bystanders play a critical role in either supporting or stopping bullying. School staff, students, parents and the community at large all have a role in preventing bullying.
Melrose is taking action to prevent bullying in our middle school.
The Bullying Prevention Program we will use is based on the Olweus model, proven to reduce bullying in schools by up to 50%. Our strategy involves establishing and enforcing clear rules, building staff-student relationships, training staff, students & parents, supporting victims, empowering bystanders, and reaching out to the community.
YOU can help.
