We invite you to join us for MAAV’s 26th Anniversary Walk & Candlelight Vigil.

After holding a virtual event last year, we look forward to hosting our Walk & Vigil in person this year, a sentiment that is reflected in this year’s theme, “Better Together, Better With You.”

The Walk & Candlelight Vigil will be held on Sunday, October 24 at 4pm at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School. We are monitoring the state of the pandemic and will work with local officials to implement COVID-19 safety protocols at the event, which may be held outside this year if circumstances warrant.

During the Vigil, we will present our 11th Annual Advocacy in Action Award to the Cataldo family. Ersilia Cataldo Matarazzo was a vibrant and loving 50-year old woman from Everett who was tragically killed as a result of domestic violence in 2018. Members of her family have become strong advocates for domestic violence awareness, education and legislation, creating a foundation in her memory and a scholarship for Everett High School graduates. They participated in MAAV’s Walk the past two years as Team “Cataldo Strong,” and were deeply honored to be chosen for our award.

As always, MAAV’s Walk will raise awareness about domestic violence and the funds necessary to continue MAAV’s programs and services. To help us raise those funds, businesses, community organizations and families can serve as event sponsors. We also welcome individual contributions, which can be made online at maav.kindful.com. Please note that you must select the drop-down arrow in the donation box and choose “2021 Annual Walk Donation” to make a general Walk donation.

The event serves as MAAV’s largest annual fundraiser, with last year’s Walk raising almost $60,000. Donations are used to fund prevention and intervention initiatives throughout the community and schools. MAAV’s programs seek to curb bullying, teen dating abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault.
