Joan joined the MAAV Board of Directors in 2000. She returned to her hometown of Melrose after having children, to raise her family. She is married and has three daughters, all who have benefited from MAAV’S great programming over the years. She always wanted them to know growing up that they had a voice. In addition to being President, Joan serves on the Strategic Planning Committee & has Co-Chaired the Annual Walk Committee. Joan was an original member of the Mentoring Program that MAAV ran in conjunction with the Melrose Police Department. She is actively involved with Special Olympics, and is the Superintendent of Mt. Hood Golf Course & Public Open Space for the City of Melrose.
#WordsHavePower Poster Contest: Meet the Winners!
We’re thrilled to announce the winners of our#WordsHavePower poster contest! The winner for the K-5 age group is Addy Hickey, a 5th grade at the Hoover School. She’s pictured below with Hoover Principal Carol Weldin and MAAV’s Liane Cassavoy. The winner for the 6-12 age group is Faith Yurek, an 8th grade student at MVMMS. She’s pictured here with MVMMS Principal Brent Conway and teacher Steve Turner, a member of the Safe Steps for Melrose Task Force. The artwork these ladies created will be turned into posters that will displayed in the schools this fall. Congratulations to Faith and Addy and thanks to everyone who entered!!
