Community Coffeehouse

March 22, 2026
4pm - 6pm
Temple Beth Shalom

Voices Against Violence, our annual coffee house, is an inter-generational event uniting community members who share a passion for both the arts and breaking the cycle of domestic violence.

While attendees enjoy coffee and snacks, a diverse lineup of singers, poets, and other performers deliver acts reflecting on the themes of friendship, love, healthy relationships, and speaking out against violence.

Each ticket sold and every donation collected supports MAAV’s Melrose High School Student Action Board. MHS student leaders are on hand to share information about their initiatives and impact, inspiring attendees to get involved and support the cause.

The Melrose Run for Women

Sunday May 10, 2026

A unique way to celebrate Mother’s Day, the Melrose Running Club organizes the Melrose Run For Women annually. This family event honoring mothers and children kicks off with a series of kids races followed by the main event: a 3.5 mile run/walk which winds through the scenic and peaceful Swains Pond section of the city.

The Melrose Running Club generously donates a portion of all race entry fees to MAAV each year. A celebration of women of all ages and abilities, this is a can’t miss event! Please visit Melrose Running Club to invite your mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends (and for more details).

The Annual Vigil and Walk to End Domestic Violence

2026 Walk Date TBD

2026 Walk.png

Each year, community members gather in the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School auditorium for a Candlelight Vigil with the reading of all names of those who lost their lives due to domestic violence in Massachusetts since our previous walk, before heading out on a 2-mile walk around the Melrose community to signify our community coming together to take a stand against domestic violence.

Our Annual Walk to End Domestic Violence is our largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from this event allow us to provide free, safe, and confidential programs and services to those impacted by teen dating and domestic violence.

These services include:

  • Prevention Education

  • Resource and Referrals

  • Survivor Advocacy and Safety Planning

  • Confidential Group Therapy

  • Community Trainings

This is a family event of over 700 people from Melrose and the surrounding communities.

The event is held rain or shine.

White Ribbon Day

wrd2025.jpg

The White Ribbon campaign is the largest international human rights movement of men and boys working to end violence against women and girls, promote gender equity, foster healthy relationships, and advance a new vision of masculinity.

Created by a group of Canadian men in 1991 on the second anniversary of a massacre of 14 women, the campaign urged men to speak out against violence against women. This observance now includes all gender-based violence.

Held every March, MAAV hosts an annual White Ribbon Day even in partnership with the city of Melrose, bringing together elected officials, educators, students, law enforcement, and other community members to show support for the change, growth, and education needed to reduce gender-based violence.
